selfish and short-sighted love. The story fits the pattern of classic tragic ...

An engaging novel, it kept me reading and reading and reading despite some rather repetitive (and occasionally underdeveloped) "action scenes." The central character suffers from at first seemingly random personal crises, which subsequently are identified as deliberately harmful acts on the part of an antagonist, and which eventually are discovered to be the results of the protagonists' fatal flaw, selfish and short-sighted love. The story fits the pattern of classic tragic opera and as such is extremely interesting to observe as it develops. As some other reviewers have already commented, there's not a great abundance of science, but then the science of time travel is presently largely limited to theory and speculation, anyway, and besides, it's not really a story about time travel, it's a story about people dealing with power they use but cannot comprehend and with the results thereof. The conclusion of the tale reveals a flawed hero (as all heroes are) who wins our empathy because, were we to be in his situation, we'd probably make the same errors and experience the same heartbreaks ourselves.
In short, it was a good read...I enjoyed it...I'm glad I had the experience.

I absolutely loved this book and I couldn't put it down

I would give this book more than 5 stars if there were more than 5 to give.
Up until this book, I've never been motivated to write a book review for an e-book. However, I absolutely loved this book and I couldn't put it down. I was really disappointed when it was over because it was just a fun, engaging story to read.
This is the first "original" time travel story I've read in a long time. I'm a huge fan of alt worlds/parallel Earths/time travel stories, but it takes a lot to impress me. In this genre, you can honestly say most books follow the same patter "I've seen this plot before and there are really one or two minor twists that make the story different". It's "meh" and fun to read, but not memorable. That's not true for this book.
I found myself invested in the story line and I wanted to see what would happen next. Given that I'll stop reading books if I don't get into them after a few chapters, I find myself surprised that I want a sequel to this book. Usually, I want the story contained in one unit (which this one is!), so it's also rare that I'd complain that there's only one book!
Finally, there is a good balance between being enjoyable for unscientific and scientific audiences. If you are a "how does this work" person, there was detail about the science behind the ideas, while not dragging down the movement of the story. It's not just "space opera". It was a bit too technical for me in spots, but I could see it being the right amount of information for someone else. The author clearly did a lot of research and brought a lot of knowledge of the topic to the table. That is really hard to find in a lot of science fiction. Usually, it tilts one way or another. As a "non-science" oriented person, I could get the information I needed to get the "main idea" and then I could move on w/out feeling like I missed out on major plot points. I think the author served both audiences well.
It was a well-thought out book and I'm really glad I purchased it on a whim. I really can't wait to browse other books by this author.

WOW! How can you give this novel anything less than 5 stars!?

I read a lot...I mean A LOT - all sorts of books but usually sci/fi and time travel tends to be a favorite. This is probably the BEST time travel novel I have read in a very long time. It addresses many concerns, mishaps, and interesting oddities of what time travel can do to someone's life that I have not seen in another book. The wonderful part is that this novel is so much more. It is heavy with science at times but equally develops a deep understanding of human nature, love and what drives us to action and the consequences of those actions. I never expected the story to change into what it became about halfway through - but it was a change that caused me to love it even more. It is one of those books that you can't expect to devour in a day or two, and you should never EVER attempt that. You have got to be able to sit down, read and comprehend and feel what you are reading or you will completely lose the beauty of what the story tries to share. Give it a chance, you will never want to "unhappen" the experience.
