So far, so good...

I'm an avid reader and have ordered dozens of books through Amazon, but this is the first one I've taken the time to write a review for, because I believe this book can help others in the same situation I was.

I ordered this book when I was applying for Life Insurance, based on the investment strategy in Douglas Andrew's book, "Missed Fortune 101". I wanted to review another reference on life insurance to learn more about it, and to corroborate Andrews' strategy. This is the only other book I could find that discussed LI from a financial investment perspective. This is a very comprehensive book about LI. It's a large book, and so far I've only read portions, skipping around to the areas I needed to understand the type of policy I was applying for, and to justify in my mind that indeed it was the right one for me (I'm working with a financial planner who recommended a particular plan, and has largely focused his practice on Doug Andrews' strategy). This book gave me a lot of the information I needed to ask my agent questions about my policy. In fact, he was impressed with my questions and wanted the name of this book.

This is a very easy to read book, with plenty of *understandable* tables as examples. I have also found it to be very objective, discussing the tradeoffs of the different types of policies, and discussing in what personal situations a particular policy might be best. The intent of this book is clearly educational - there's no hidden agenda or bias that I can detect. The author has CFP, CLU, and CHFC credentials.

Finally, and very importantly, this author stresses the need to manage your life insurance policy over time, as you would any other investment - especially the flexible aspects of policies, and including, where necessary, 1035 transfers to a more appropriate policy.

This book is a must read, for anyone attempting to accumulate significant amounts of wealth and ample case reserves for a secure retirement. Once you grasp the full understanding of how best to pay for Life Insurance, the hardest part may be finding a qualified Financial Advisor to assist you over the long run. This is a long term arrangement, one that requires a long term Advisor, to assist you in doing what most people are not capable of doing....accumulating wealth. The book will also be a guide to refer back to, from time to time.

Great way to learn about insurance

The author did a geat job in explaining life insurance products. Those that have panned the book have a built in bias against insurance companies and their salesmen/woman. Fine, but I am waiting for one to write a cogent critique of why the author is wrong in his analysis. Frankly, I haven't found one financial services professional that can, even those that don't sale insurance products. Bottom line, the strategy makes sense for a many if not most folks who are trying to accumulate retirement $$. And yes the insurance industry makes good fees selling their products just like the securities companies make great fees with their products whether they are indexed mutual funds or stocks and bonds. I simply consider this the cost of doing business and move on. So what if someone makes some money helping you have a more comfortable retirement. Read it, take the ideas seriously, and incorporate the ideas into your plan. I have.

Nice Concise Tutorial

This is a good quick tutorial on the Z-transform. I wanted something that would quickly summarize the basics, this book did that. It isn't long winded with verbage and derivations. It fit the needs I was looking for. I would not recommend this if you are trying to learn about Z-transform without any other background in the topic. For that, I would recommend books by Chi-Tsong Chen.

Living light from Russia

Because Russia has for so long been disconnected from the flow of people, ideas and information that has over the last century so enriched the consciousness of the rest of the world, most of us know little about the spiritual insides of this deep and mysterious land. As many of us have suspected from the scant but intriguing stories of extrasensory discoveries behind the iron curtain, from what we know of the legacy of original teachers such as Gurdieff and Ouspensky, and even from the novels of Dostoevsky, there is a deep and unique vein of other-worldly connection in the Russian tradition. Some dimensions of it are profoundly spiritual, producing an effulgence of light and wisdom, while other aspects have been developed in the service of darkness, for sinister use by the KGB (the secret police) and for psychic warfare.
The interplay between the forces of light and darkness is a part of this story as well, as Beliaev seeks initially to make sense of some terrifying encounters with "the Prince of the World" (aka the Prince of Darkness) and other dark beings who came to him from time to time during the earlier part of his spiritual journey. His inner world ignited when he met a strange and powerful spiritual master, Tausha, who was essentially a living channel of light and healing, and who imparted the techniques of being a vehicle of this light to his disciples.
The conflict between light and dark in the author's inner universe culminates during a sojourn with Tausha and his band of followers in the Armenian mountains when, to Beliaev's utter horror, the Prince appears on the crest of the hill beyond their campfire - and he sees the features of the Dark One suddenly reflected through his teacher's face. He made the traumatic decision to abandon Tausha on the spot, precipitating a long period of confusion, as the student, bereft of his teacher and the living flow, struggles to make sense of it all on his own. Eventually, they are reunited for a brief time before Tausha's untimely death.
The master's purpose for himself and his disciples was, as he put it,"to establish the site of another reality in this gloomy world - a reality where the natural course of evolution can be restored.....The plan is to create a Shambala-like place, a place hospitable to the flow, right here in the midst of the Soviet madness, in the city, not in a faraway retreat. ...When I say `a place', I don't mean a concrete location, I mean an energy structure, a sacred bowl filled up with energy and acting as an energy preserve."
Living beneath this continual and ever-increasing downpour of energy was a transformative and blissful experience for the group, infusing not just their minds and bodies with light, vibrancy and supreme aliveness, but filling them up as well with the imperative to channel this awareness into the world. It was life in a state of Grace.
Tausha teaches them that they are not working alone. Initiating the process requires a blessing from a higher source. The Sufi masters call this light of blessing baraka, which means grace, or the power given for the Work. What is required of those who receive this blessing is service - a dedication to becoming a channel, a link that connects the realm of the higher energies to this world. Of necessity, a healer who seeks to serve in this way must do the difficult inner spiritual work of dissolving the ego in order to become a pure, empty channel.
Tausha is a very creative teacher and instructs them in various disciplines. Some are original to him, and some are traditional, among them Kunta yoga, a yoga of mystical symbols and mantras. The author gives us a fascinating introduction to some of the basic glyphs, explaining that when meditating on these symbols, one comes into resonance with Shakti, the creative energy of the cosmos.
In the end, Tausha dies alone in the woods. But the end turns out to be but another astonishing beginning in this transcendental tale, for his death simply inaugurated another phase of the mission. He appears to the group again, months after his death, matter-of-factly walking in the door as they were meditating, looking very corporeal in his astral form. He offered them now an even greater opportunity to live in the Flow, since he could in his new embodiment in the Light even better guide, protect and supply the group with energy than before.
Perhaps the most beautiful part of the book was not so much the story of Tausha and his life and teachings, stellar as these were, but the existential distillation in the end of Beliaev's own life and experience as he evolves beyond the personal touch of his teacher. In the end he was blessed with an awareness of something higher than the flow..the Presence. And he now clearly deserves the honour of being called a master healer and teacher in his own right.
"Tausha - The Life and Teachings of a Russian Mystic" is an incredibly rich and illuminating book. It's an original vision of tremendous depth and power, capturing the sublime in an exquisite prism of elegant prose. It truly deserves a place on the spiritual seeker's bookshelf beside the volumes of Castaneda, the tales of the Sufis and all other such works of authentic spiritual vision that the new global dawning of higher consciousness has brought forth.

About the Author
Dr. Ying Wang is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Louisiana State University since Fall 2008. She has worked extensively on novel nanomaterials synthesis for solar cells and lithium-ion batteries. Her recent awards include the Nanotechnology Graduate Research Award from the University of Washington Initiative Fund (UIF, 2005), a Graduate Fellowship from the PNNL-UW Joint Institute for Nanoscience (JIN, 2005), and a Ford Motor Company Fellowship (2004). She has published 20 journal papers, 8 conference proceedings, 5 book chapters, and has given over 20 invited seminars worldwide. Her paper on "Developments of Nanostructured Cathode Materials for High-Performance Lithium-Ion Batteries" is the Top 5 most downloaded paper in Advanced Materials in 2008 and is selected in the Special Issue "the Best of Advanced Materials" in 2009. Her paper on "Nanostructures and Enhanced Intercalation Properties of Vanadium Oxides" is the Top 5 most accessed paper in Chemistry of Materials in 2006. Dr Wang teaches the materials science classes (ME 3701: Materials Science Laboratory; ME 2733: Materials of Engineering).

Dr. Guozhong Cao is Boeing-Steiner Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Adjunct Professor of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. He received his PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands), MS from Shanghai Institute of Ceramics and BS from East China University of Science and Technology (China). He has published over 250 refereed papers, written and edited 5 books and 3 conference proceedings, and presented more than 100 invited talks, keynote and plenary speeches, and seminars. His research has led to the creation of two spin-off companies on energy conversion and storage with over 30 patent applications. Currently, Dr. Cao serves as the editor of Annual Review of Nano Research and associate editor of Journal of Nanophotonics. His recent research is focused mainly on nanomaterials for solar cells, lithium ion batteries, supercapacitors, and hydrogen storage.

Great textbook!

Many books in this area are too concerned with the nano hype and less focused on the science behind it. Others present several chapters, each written by a specific set of authors, that are not necessarily correlated and seem more like a collection of review papers instead of a book. In this context, in my opinion, this book is one of the best books covering the subject (together with ozin's nano chemistry). It covers the real fundamentals and the science that drives the field together with current relevant advances and applications. The only negative aspect of the book is the illustrations, that could be colored and more eye-catching....I was hoping for that in this new edition...Even then, I will give it 5 stars...

There are so many typos in this book. It's clear the authors are not native English speakers and that the book never got edited by anyone (or if it did, they did a terrible job). However, it does provide a great overview of nanomaterials (like how they are synthesized and characterized) and is an easy read.

I really enjoyed reading this book

I really enjoyed reading this book, not only in regards to the breadth of information pertaining to Digital, but also the depth of information. You will receive many insights and examples in regards to Digital, not just from the Authors perspective, but from other industry leaders and experts as well.

This book is definitely useful as a reference guide for information. One example I found helpful was a summary of recent Android Version release notes and issues related to each version. This will enable Testers to quickly see what issues have been prevalent in older versions of Android, thus saving time and increasing coverage, and having more focused regression test cases written, executed and results reviewed for those scenarios.

Another example that hit the mark for me, was in relation to scope of testing and test planning. The "9 Boxes" checklist is essential to test planning and coverage for mobile apps, including types of testing and what tests should be included under each testing type. The book actually has examples filled in for an example mobile app that you can use to get up and running quickly with your test planning and scope, plus found it interesting that they had one for iOT as well.

This book is a must read for anyone connected to the Digital Transformation of today, whether you are a digital user, tester, manager, developer or business unit, this book has something for everyone. Relevant subjects include Shifting Left, DevOps, Quality, Mobile Devices, iOT, Real End User Experience Testing, Coverage, Cloud, Automation, and CI, just to name a handful.

It's a great mix of examples, lessons learned, past, present and even future nuggets of information around the Age of Digital. I highly recommend reading this book in order to better understand each of our roles in Digital, and how to best combat the Digital Disruption going on in the marketplace. I have this book next to my desktop computer at all times and refer to it frequently throughout the week. Pick up a copy today and you will be glad you did!

Just read this book if you care about your mobile app quality

A must-read book for whoever cares about the quality of their apps. Mobile apps need to survive ongoing and continual changes of the run-time environment, new devices (and IOT), new OS, new capabilities (eg Bot). Any and all of these can expose multiple problems with existing apps. Eran and several top notch contributors make it clear that active apps demand constant care even if functionalities dont change. They provide meaningful way of optimizing one's mobile app development and testing practices. The primary focus is automation testing. Some tables/figures are barely readable though, but this is quite expected with paperback quality. I would have loved to read your perspective on how Artificial Intelligence will impact mobile testing. Automation testing is still highly manual today, and we wont be able to cope with the growing complexity of apps with the toolset we have today.
