Concise and Focused Textbook of Obstetric Anesthesia, which is an Outstanding Educational Resource for Anesthesia Residents

"A Practical Approach to Obstetric Anesthesia, Second Edition" is a newly-released concise and focused textbook of Obstetric Anesthesia, which is essentially a manual that is arranged in outline format. It is exceedingly well-written, well-illustrated, well-organized, and well-referenced, with a stellar assemblage of editors and contributing authors. It provides wide-ranging coverage of fundamental topics such as the physiologic changes of pregnancy, uteroplacental blood flow and drug transfer, local anesthetic properties, analysis of the standard obstetric anesthesia techniques, management of labor analgesia, management of anesthesia for Cesarean Section, and the management of the high-risk parturient. The use of the highlighted Clinical Pearl boxes is a decidedly effective technique for emphasizing concepts that are especially important, and which contribute significantly to the requisite knowledge base and overall expertise of every resident. Outstanding book

After not doing any obstetric anesthesia for about seven years, I needed a good book to brush up my knowledge and bring me up to date on any changes in the field. This book was exactly what I needed. I would say it's that happy midpoint between outline format and "standard textbook prose" format. The information is current (as of 3/2017) and the book is well organized and easy to understand. I don't think I would use this as my primary OB anesthesia textbook if I were a resident, but for a review book it is outstanding.
There are a few grammatical errors here and there which are irksome but not enough for me to take off a star.

Very good book. wish it didn't have all the studies thrown into the chapters. just tell me what i need to know. i don't care about who did what study and how many parturients were involved. If aspiration risk is increased then just say it!
