A great guide to an awesome game

If you have the guide book for the main game of Bloodborne than this book will be pretty much the same layout except be about the old Hunter DLC. This book covers how to get to the new DLC, the changes the various updates have made to the game up to version 1.07, and everything you will need to survive the Nightmare...again. The chapters are:

1.Training Manual- This basically covers how to access the new DLC step by step. It also covers all the game updates and various things that have changed such as certain weapons using less stamina, increased storage of certain items, and so on. It also has the attack speed and stamina use of all the weapons in an easy to read format so that you can compare them all on the spot.

2. Hunting Grounds- This chapter goes over all the new areas and tells you the locations of enemies, where to find items, enemy stats, the best paths to take, secret areas, and basically everything about the areas.

3. The Bestiary- This covers all the new enemies, bosses, and npc's and tells you there stats, weaknesses, strategies, how many blood echoes they drop, items they might drop, where they are found, and with the bosses it also tells you if certain attacks are interruptible.

4. Arsenal and Attire- This covers all the new weapons and items. It tells you there damages in regular and transformed mode, gives you strategies, best runes to use with them, where to find them, and skill scaling. It also goes over the new arcane items, gestures, and attire.

5. Hunters Appendices- This goes over all the NPC's and quests you can do with each and how to get all the items they can give. It has the trophy guide, and goes over the story and lore of the game which really helps because honestly I have no idea what's going on in the game and I've even platinumed it. Finally it has a little bit of artwork of the game.

So basically if you have the First guide for this game its the same thing pretty much but covering the DLC and for those of you who don't have that guide I would suggesting both that one Bloodborne Collector's Edition Strategy Guide and this one. They will not only help you platinum the game and die A LOT less, but this guide will go over the story and help explain a lot. The cover of the book looks awesome and the back is just black with a little sword.

I cant recommend this book enough and its an excellent companion to an excellent game

Beautiful Guide

The beautiful cover art was the main reason I ordered it and I love it. Of course having a guide for games like Bloodborne and Dark souls are always handy to have too. I'm just sad it was so beaten up on delivery (pages warped and cover dented) and have to return it and wait for a replacement (no fault of future press. Amazon really needs to step up their packaging on their books because this has happened to me before.)

UPDATE: My replacement came in and it was in much better condition though the pages are still slightly warped it's not nearly as noticeable as the first one I had in so I will keep it. Here's few pictures of the art inside for those who were interested in that since that was one of my main reasons for getting it.

Awakening From the Hunter's Nightmare

It's rare to see Future Press make a guide for the expanded content of a game. When Dark Souls and Dark Souls II got their expansions, Future Press wasn't in sight at all with a guide to cover new content and items. In their introduction Future Press admits they wanted to do such things for expansions but could never really justify it. Here, they just went for it. The end result is a guide that stays incredibly consistent with the original guide published. But rather than publishing a whole new book (that would amount to near 800 pages if they did) they merely covered the expansion by itself. Needless to say, you won't get any content for the original game if you don't have the original guide. Therefore, you might want to think of the guide itself as also an expansion.

The layout is almost exactly the same as the original guide, but this time it jumps right in. The original guide spent a lot of time getting you acquainted with the game. This one, however, assumes you're already familiar with the systems found in Bloodborne. This guide isn't treating "The Old Hunters," like a new game, but assuming that you already know Bloodborne's various systems in and out. What it does do, however, is point out the changes made in the various patches over time and how they will affect the gameplay. The opening section of the guide spends more time getting you familiar with the updates rather than familiar with the game itself. This is perhaps what I like most about this guide. It doesn't spend a lot of time rehashing stuff from the previous guide. Everything it does rehash is all quick. There is a table for the weapons and a quick call out to previous enemies they've already discussed.

This doesn't mean it'll shorthand you in all the areas. The guide has no qualms jumping int the walkthrough and it's written exactly as it was before. The walkthrough has markers on the maps that guide you through the various areas of The Hunter's Nightmare, pointing out branching paths and pointing out items along the way. The walkthrough is going to feel quick, however. It'll give you combat scenarios and how to deal with them, but for the most part, it spends time focusing on what to do at certain points. The walkthrough itself doesn't have boss strategies or individual enemy strategies. All that stuff is saved for later. The walkthrough gets the job done, but as with the original guide, the stuff beyond the walkthrough is far more valuable and insightful.

First there is the bestiary. This section gives step by step tip son how to defeat each and every new enemy encountered in The Old Hunters. More than that, the guide also provides the expert boss strategies necessary to get past the strongest of foes. They're precise and in depth. A part of me still wishes they were in the walkthrough itself, but the fact that they're as in depth and as good as they are will have to suffice. The strategies always give an overview and then detail the battle itself and also talk about the environment you're fighting in. They're usually helpful tips and to the point.

The Old Hunters introduces a LOT of fascinating new weapons and this guide will help you understand how they work. Diagrams show how their swings work, how fast and how effective they can be. They also detail how to scale the weapon to the best of its abilities and offer advice on which gems to attach to it. This is where I got some of the most out of the guide simply because the new weapons were amazing, and it helped to recognize how they work. This is especially true if you've engaged in PVP or cooperation and seen these weapons in action without having them yourself. There is also a lot of useful information on the new items and attire you'll find as well.

Another useful portion of the book is that the guide also gives individual strategies for each hunter. It talks about the weapons they use and how to defeat them. There's always a good breakdown.

A lot of game include trophies now, but I'm always surprised how many guides neglect a Trophy Guide. It's starting to become standard to include a trophy guide for those who want it and I'm glad to see it here. It'll point out trophies but sometimes the strategies are located elsewhere in the guide and you'll have to flip back. It's an interesting concept and I'm glad more guides are starting to do this. It's pretty good here and it's great some of these strategies are in the walkthrough. Other times, it has quick references for you. For instance, in terms of getting all the weapons, there's a handy chart to point to where all of them are.

If you were one that was particularly interested in the lore of Bloodborne the last chapter might be the most fascinating for you. The last bit spends a lot of time talking about the lore and going in depth about the story of Bloodborne. It does this by showing connections between locations, characters and even talks about the items in your inventory that add to it. If need be, they'll also utilize dialog to help you understand the lore as well. Dialog drawn directly from the game. It all comes together to provide a coherent and in-depth interpretation of the events of Bloodborne. If you're curious about the lore and want to know more, this is a nice bit. Although it's still just as fun to learn of these things on your own. At least it serves as a great reference. The last bit is an art gallery and it's pretty amazing to look at. A nice bit of closure to such a fantastic guide.

The best part about this guide is that you can use as much or as little as you like and still feel like it's helping to enhance the game compliment the game itself. It's a detailed guide. If you've got Bloodborne and you need some help with The Old Hunters, this is a great guide to invest in.

Energy Experiments Really Work

Several months ago I heard an advertisement for this book while listening to Hay House Radio. My immediate response was, "I need that book!" Being the book junkie that I am though, it isn't (currently) in my budget to buy every book that sounds interesting to me. So I looked it up at the library. No copies. Drat!

Several weeks later, I spontaneously found myself browsing the Hay House site and came up on their blogger community. That, I now realize, was miracle #1. This community allows bloggers to receive copies of certain books for free in exchange for a review posted to the blogger's website. I signed up for the program and received the book just a few days later.

If you're into spirituality, the power of intention, quantum physics, or anything along those lines, you would love this book. It's absolutely perfect for the person who has done extended reading on the topics (me!) but can't manage to move beyond the feeling of being stuck. Sure you may come up on a little proof of the Universe working in your favor now and then, but it's soon forgotten and sucked into the void of feeling like you have no power over your life.

This book provided me with the necessary guidance I needed to truly know that my thoughts have power through 9 cut and dry exercises. The best part is, Ms. Pam Grout is writes in a language that is accessible, humorous and the very opposite of boring. The lessons are concise, to the point, and best of all - offer NO ROOM FOR QUESTIONING. At the end of each experiment you KNOW that God heard your plea.

When it all boils down to it, what these experiments aim to do is solidify our faith. You either believe or you don't. You can't be wishy washy and that's where most of us get stuck. You also can't send mixed signals... Like, "I really want to lose weight, but I also really want to have 10 pieces of chocolate cake today." You have to be honest with yourself about what you really want. That's the other place where we get stuck. We don't truly know what we want.

Through practicing the experiments in this book, you can begin to hone in on what it is you're truly asking for. As Grout states, begin with simple things first. Some things take longer than others. Don't expect to become a millionaire over night. Also, keep your eyes and intuition open. You have to recognize that your question and desires have been answered. Sometimes the answers don't come the way you wanted, or expected. Most important of all though, is don't waiver in your belief. Most spiritual traditions teach this critical element and now it's backed up by science. The observer creates and changes the observed. It's true.

Finally, just to prove to you that I'm not just writing this for naught, I will share two stories about thoughts/things I manifested while going through the experiments in this book. The first one comes in the form of a Needak rebounder (a mini trampoline). I've wanted one for several years, and have had a cheap one in the past, that only lasted me about two months. I had only been reading E-Squared for a couple of hours when suddenly the word "rebounder" popped into my mind. A few minutes later I was on Craigslist where, lo and behold, someone was selling two Needak rebounders for half of their original price. I have NEVER seen a Needak on Craigslist in all the years I've been looking for one.

I now own the rebounder. And, just to add to the delight of the story, it's worth noting that the person I bought it from - the complete and total Craigslist stranger - was also very much into miracles, Wayne Dyer and other things along this course. She even had the words, "I am entitled to miracles" written on her forearm. There's no denying God in this equation.

The second example is a little more subtle. I happened to drop my camera right on it's lens in the middle of my son's birthday party. I had experienced trouble with the lens before and tried everything I could to fix it. I couldn't. I was sure that this was it for my poor little camera, which I actually use for one of my jobs. Drat again! A little later in the day, one of the chapters was guiding me to manifest something specific, immediately my mind told me what I wanted, "a camera!"

A few minutes later I found myself on YouTube looking up instructions on how to fix my camera. Even though I had already given up on it. I pretty much thought I was about to take it apart and really ruin it. Instead I came up on a simple tutorial that said to slap the camera on your palm and gently guide the lens out. Can you believe this worked? Suddenly the lens that was absolutely stuck and would not move a millimeter was working just fine. I had a camera again. Sure, it wasn't a new camera, but I gave the Universe 48 hours to give me a camera and I had one within 30 minutes. I accepted it with gratitude.

Please don't think that the only thing you can manifest are material objects. These examples are important because we like to be able to see things physically. But we can also use this book to ask for guidance and to help manifest peace and love in our hearts - that's where the real power lies. Like I said before, it's really about cultivating and maintaining faith. So yeah, read this book. I got it for free, but if I knew then what I know now, I would have gladly paid for it. "Experiment" format is unique and helpful for practicing principles

I'm no stranger to the "woo-woo, new-agey" ideas in this book, and I'm pretty open to these ideas to begin with, but I particularly like the way the book is structured in "experiment" form, to give you a clear focus. I put "experiment" in quotes, because I notice in these reviews that some scientifically-minded people get annoyed that these are not experiments in the strict scientific sense. Some people take things too literally.

A couple of the experiments had outcomes that were quite amazing. A few had no discernible outcome, or at least, no outcome that can't just be chalked up to random coincidence. Specifically, here were my outcomes:

#1 The Dude Abides: I asked for my gift. 3 events happened that could fit the description, but they were not totally amazing. I received a message from a relative I was hoping to hear from, I received a shipment of a Christmas gift for my son; this gift was not estimated to arrive for Christmas, not until mid-January, but it arrived Dec 23rd, also I received a caring note from someone I barely know - it was like a reminder that I matter to people I'm not even much aware of.

#2 The Volkswagon Jetta: This outcome was the most amazing. I didn't even think I would do it, because it was Christmas and I couldn't foresee much probability of seeing green cars or yellow butterflies. But I half-heartedly did it anyway. On Christmas Day (at night), we did go visit family, but it was dark. I was thinking the chances were very low that I would see any green cars. But on the way home, a car changed lanes in front of me. He changed slowly, to the point it sort of annoyed me, which caused me to look hard at the car. It was green. The next day, I was near the end of the 24 hours, but took my daughter to a friend's house. I was thinking there was not much chance I would see many green cars, other than the one from the night before, but it was like green cars, tractors, and trucks rained down on me. I saw 14 green cars, 2 John Deere tractors and 3 large green trucks (recycling trucks, lawn care, etc.) in just that short drive. Pretty bizarre, really.

Next was the yellow butterflies. Again, didn't think my chances were good, since I was mostly going to be home post-Christmas. But I thought, "What the heck. Something might surprise me." With just two hours left before the 24 hours would end, I took some donations to Goodwill. While in line, I thought about the butterfly experiment again and thought, "Well, unless I see a butterfly on something here at the donation bay, I'm probably not going to see one by 3:00pm." When I pulled up to the donation bay, the dumpster container had a handful of child's stickers stuck all over it randomly. Right there in front of me was a tiny yellow butterfly sticker! It was pretty great! As I was leaving the Goodwill, I accidentally turned left where I meant to turn right, then impulsively decided to go into a card store nearby to look for a magazine. Again I thought about the butterflies. I said to myself, "There might even be something with a yellow butterfly on it here, like a suncatcher or something. If I see something, I'm going to buy it as a reminder of this event." What do you think was right in the window of the store as I walked up? A suncatcher with a yellow butterfly on it! I bought it and it's hanging right beside me right now!

#3 Alby Einstein: For this experiment, I made the rods with the wire hangers. They did "work" exactly as described in the book. When I thought about a terrible event of my life (a death, for example), they pointed in close to my body. When I thought about a happy event (a trip I went on), they swung out wide. Even when I just pasted a beaming grin on my face, they swung out in response. It was pretty cool!

#4 Abracadabra: For this experiment, I was asking that my friend, who lives out of state, would contact me and we would arrange to get together. She did not contact me within the 48 hours. Later, though, I learned that at this time, her mother had suffered a life-threatening health scare. My friend was able to save her life. Her mother was not expected to live or recover properly, but she did. My friend called this her "Christmas miracle." This is obviously not an answer to my particular prayer, but I believe it illustrates that positive energy can have positive effects, even if not the effects we expect.

#5 Dear Abby: I did not get any discernible response to my question. I did hear the name of someone in a waiting room, which was tangentially related to my question, but clearly this can be called a simple coincidence. It did happen that I gave impromptu advice to someone else, so it is possible that I was a link to somebody else's needed advice, but I can't claim anything amazing happened with this experiment.

#6 Superhero: I have the most disagreement with this particular chapter. The author's understanding of her father's "ugly baby" comment is illogical and bizarre to me. I know a lot of people, including my kids, my nephews/nieces, myself - who had off-hand remarks like this said about them - "What a huge, fat little pudge!" "That baby looks like a wrinkled-up prune!" or whatever. It didn't make them grow up fat or prune-like. Also, Dr. Emoto's water experiments have been discredited according to my research. In one sense, yes, I do believe it matters how you talk to people, animals and even plants. Kind energy is kind energy. On the other hand, I don't think a stray remark about an ugly baby is going to manifest ugliness for the next two decades of life, kwim? Also, I'm firmly in the "science" camp when it comes to health, illness and disease. I did not do the "beans" experiment, though I might. I have an indoor garden set-up, so I could and might.

#7 Jenny Craig: I didn't do this experiment for two reasons: one, I already agree with the overall concept; and two, I don't have any weight or figure problems.

#8 101 Dalmatians: For this experiment, I wanted to hear from a certain friend, who would ask me to meet her for lunch. (See a theme here, lol!) I also showered her with blessings. I have yet to know if she experienced any particular blessings, but she did not ask me to meet her for lunch. She did send me a short FB message very late in the evening on the day this experiment was set to "expire". So - I guess that's something.

#9 Loaves and Fishes: I did not do this experiment, but I agree with the principle.

If there's a weakness inherent in the book, it's probably the short-term "deadlines" for each experiment. Time, after all, is a human, artificial construct; what does "48 hours" even mean to the Infinite? Time constraints can be handy for feeling that the experiment "worked," but it can also promote discouragement, I think. I'm not convinced God frequently works with 2-day time frames. Also, the time frames might promote more self-centered prayers. As I said, in one experiment, I believe I may have given someone the advice that *they* were needing, even if I did not get my own answer in the time frame. Ideally, we would all see ourselves as a part of this giant web, this network of energy. Sometimes the blessings may be our own and may be tangible things like money or tickets for a show. But we can also be blessed by providing a link to help someone else realize their prayers.

I wish this book was endless, it inspired me so much!

Quick, Easy Read. Each chapter is less than a ten minute read, actually each one is an experiment you can apply. I have never wanted a book to keep going more than I did this book. Pam Grout's sense of humor fits mine, I loved all her stories, testimonials, and examples. I finally found in print a way to express how I feel and think. I am grateful to be reminded that I don't have to earn access or wear myself to the bone to have access to all that exists energetically in this universe, and neither do you! Great way to spend a Sunday morning, quietly by myself. I was so excited, I text both my girls and had them buy it this morning as well. Thanks Pam Grout . . . wonderful book.

About the Author
Dr. Andrew G. Reynolds is Professor of Viticulture at the Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute, Brock University, Canada. His career has included a position as Research Scientist for Agriculture Canada in British Columbia and, since 1997, a faculty position at Brock University. He is well known for his research into canopy management, the impacts of site and soil on flavour, irrigation and water relations, geomatics and the use of GPS/GIS and remote sensing for studying terroir.

We use this book in our parish RCIA program. It is a concise overview of what Catholics believe. In addition the book is indexed to the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I highly recommend this book for RCIA programs.

Politics Gets in the Way

We were assigned this book as part of a RCIA preparation. We have the 5th edition. We are trying to associate Foley's perspective with the annotations of the Catholic Catechism and the descriptions are fairly good. However, the liberal politics of the author tends to reduce the effectiveness of the instruction. For example, on page 31, the author associates "grinning soldiers driving little sticks into Vietnamese children's eardrums" as a sign of the devil as well as speaking about soldiers sending severed ears home. These are unsubstantiated and loaded statements that are, to my knowledge, unproven. As a Veteran of 25 months in combat in Viet Nam during two tours, I personally did not witness any such behavior nor did I hear about it from my fellow Marines. This assertion needs to be removed because it is inflammatory and only serves to anger the knowledgeable reader. The author says that it is our mission to love one another no matter the circumstances, then throws this unproven allegation in without blinking an eye! This is a distraction that does not help teach the love of Christ.

Jesus brought the message to us that God is love and one filled with the Holy Spirit will rise above anger and share that love. The Vietnam war is very near the surface for those who fought at the bequest of our government and they did not use the war to practice barbarous actions (with the notable exception of the Calley Incident which was well documented and for which punitive action was taken on the perpetrators).

In this book there are many more political statements that "jar" the reader and they serve only to reduce the validity of the great ideas that the author makes available in this book.

Politics should be left aside when teaching about the church except for when the politicians attack the basic tenets of the church. When Christ's church is under attack, then we should respond in full measure.

Personally, I would rather follow the teaching with love that Father Jonathan Morris presents in his gentle but clear instruction books.

A helpful update to a classic book for all Catholics

This book is a great resource for explaining the faith to new RCIA canidates or to Catholics want to develop a further understanding of their faith. This book is very readable and easy to understand which is why it's been around so long. I would give this book to a questioning Catholic WITH the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Both are valuable resources but each used differently. Thankfully, this new edition includes some great new discussion questions.

Columbo is, of course, the fictional Los Angeles police detective created 50 years ago by Link and his writing partner, the late Richard Levinson, and famously played on television by Peter Falk. Here, Link offers a dozen original short stories about the character. All the ingredients are here: the crime, the murderer, Columbo’s step-by-step assembling of the evidence. The solutions to the cases, as fans will expect, often hinge on one crucial piece of evidence or on gleaning the truth from seemingly insignificant observations. The author incorporates many of Columbo’s familiar traits (the raincoat, the cigar, the catchphrases), but these are not pastiches. The book’s only real flaw—and this may only be a flaw to rabid fans of the TV show—is that the stories feel rushed; there’s not enough of the signature Columbo meandering, befuddling his suspects with his seemingly slow-witted questioning. These are good stories, and it’s great to see Columbo again, but they leave us feeling as if we’ve had a snack when we wanted a full-course meal. --David Pitt

About the Author
WILLIAM LINK was born in Philadelphia and grew up in a neighboring suburb. At four years old, he began drawing stories before he had learned to write. Then pencil in hand he drew his own comic books with his own super heroes. Much later, incongruously, he received his degree from the Wharton School of Business where, for his senior thesis, he submitted three original TV scripts, which he later sold. And then along came Hollywood. With his childhood best friend and collaborator, Richard Levinson, they became legends in their own time. Link and Levinson created fourteen on-the-air TV series including Columbo, Murder She Wrote, Mannix, McCloud, Ellery Queen, The Bold Ones, as well as the Broadway musical, Merlin, motion pictures, stage plays and books. After Levinson's untimely death in 1987, Link co-created two more television series, Probe and The Cosby Mysteries, wrote plays, short stories, and was president of the Mystery Writers of America. As Link said, a business education was a safety net if he and Levinson failed in a writing career. They never did and millions of television viewers have been enriched by their success.

The Return of Columbo

A fine group of short stories by one of the creators of the famous show. Peter Falk is unfortunately suffering from Alzheimer's I believe(best wishes to him and his family). These tales are a good way to remember him and the marvelous character he fleshed out on the many episodes.

Not really mysteries, the show never was, it's really about Columbo matching wits with criminals who usually mistake his little mannerisms for stupidity. There's even one story where the murderer, a cop, says, "I know all your little tricks!"

It does him no good.

the fun here is watching Columbo slowly manuever these killers until there's no where they can bluff their way out.

Worth a look.

Just One More Thing....

This is an above average collection of mystery stories featuring the greatest tv dectective of them all. Twelve stories in all, unless you purchase the hardback copy (and its worth it, got mine today) which features a pamplet with a thirteenth Columbo story, "Columbo's Mistake." Some reviews of this book have lamented the brevity of the stories, but remember these are "short stories." And while i too would like for some of the stories to be longer and more detailed their brevity does not detract from the over all quality of the book. Anyone of these stories could be fleshed out into a full length Columbo movie, and the book is a fine addition to the Columbo cannon. Stories included in the book are:

1) The Criminal Criminal Attorney, in which a lawyer becomes judge jury and executioner.

2) Grief (one of my favorites) In whcih the presence of a doggie bowl and the lack of a dog start Columbo to thinking

3) A Dish Best Served Cold, (another favorite) in which the lack of finger prints on a bottle of scotch point to a killer

4) Richochet, in which a would be Presidential assasin is himself assasinated, and Columbo must over come his fear of flying.

5) Scout's Honor, in which a potential father in law proves deadly, and a troop of scouts helps Columbo uncover important evidence of murder.

6) Sucker Punch (another favorite), In which an ex-champion welterweight boxer may have a strong motive for murder.

7) The Blackest Mail, in which a young actresses' past returns to haunt her.

8) The Gun that Wasn't, in which a cop killer uses the postal service to despose of the murder weapon.

9) Requiem for a Hitman, in which a woman contacts a hitman to murder her husband, and then murders him.

10) Trance, In which Comumbo's niece inadvertianly helps solve a murder.

11) Murder Allegro, (another good one) in which a key left in a shoe helps identify a murderer.

12) Photo Finish, in which, "Hell hath no fury like those infernal traffic camera's!"

13) Columbo's Mistake........hardcover copy ony, in which a man wrongly convicted of murder, murders the man he has suppost to have already killed.

Just not the same

I am a diehard Columbo fan and I was extremely excited to learn about this book of columbo short stories was coming out. Perhaps I expected too much, especially from short stories but I am extremely disappointed with these set of stories. I do believe that the biggest problem is that the stories are too short to get the real feel of what I'm so used to...a 1 1/2- 2 hour TV movie. The short stories do not always follow the same format...get to know the killer, discover his motive, watch the murder actually take place, watch as Columbo slowly discovers the clues he needs to convict the killer, see his expressions, particularly the wonderful "look" he gives when he knows who did it. These stories just don't have the Columbo 'feel' to them. For the most part, reading these stories is very much like reading any old murder mystery short story that I have from my old Alfred Hitchcock books. Columbo in the stories just doesn't sound like Columbo. As of this writing I have only two more stories to read and I'm not excited to read them. What should have taken me one or two days to read because of my anticipation has dragged out to weeks because I am just not motivated much to read the stories. As an avid fan of Columbo I would say that if you are just a fan of the columbo movies, just stick to them. If you are a huge fan like me and feel like you need anything that comes along about Columbo, then you might as well purchase this book but don't be surprised if you're disappointed as I am. Perhaps you can hold off and get a used copy for a cheaper price. I now wish I had.
