Se agradece un libro de este nivel sobre este tema y en nuestro idioma

En mi vida profesional me he topado con problemas serios al programar sistemas concurrentes.
En todos esos casos yo estimo que un 50% de los problemas fue mi falta de conocimientos adecuados sobre programaci�n concurrente. A pesar de que en la universidad en cursos de sistemas operativos e incluso en seminarios, se te ense�an estos conceptos, no alcanzas a asimilarlos con la profundidad necesaria. Al menos la formaci�n que te dan en la universidad te sirve de una gu�a, y se agradece, pero ser�a bueno contar con referencias pr�cticas y concretas sobre los problemas que enfrentas a tratar la programaci�n concurrente. Otro aspecto importante es que lo que aprend� en los ochenta, no necesariamente aplica para la realidad del hardware y los sistemas actuales.
Los m�s interesante de este libro es que est� pensado en el programador profesional, que no necesariamente tuvo la formaci�n universitaria en estos temas, o para quienes enfrentan estos problemas y necesitan actualizar sus conocimientos.
En mi caso lo le� con mucho inter�s y aprend� cosas muy interesantes.

La secci�n que me pareci� m�s interesante fue la titulada "La realidad del hardware moderno", que fue muy reveladora y donde pude entender porqu� cosas que en teor�a deber�an funcionar, no lo hacen como uno espera (sobre todo si intentas, quijot�scamente, crear tus propias bibliotecas y estructuras de datos concurrentes).
Lo otro interesante es que para explicar los conceptos Ricardo recurre a diversos lenguajes al alcance de cualquier programador, sin recurrir a esot�ricos lenguajes acad�micos. Los ejemplos est�n en C, Java, Python y Go y en un momento debe usar Ensamblador de ARM (en una Raspberry Pi!), pero no se asusten por esto �ltimo, si leen el libro la complejidad se maneja de forma gradual, y la raz�n de usar ensamblador es coherente con el problema que se est� tratando de resolver.

Es un libro muy pr�ctico, incluso en la primera parte, que aborda los fundamentos m�s te�ricos, absolutamente necesarios para entender lo que viene.

Uno de los objetivos de Ricardo era poder escribir un "ebook t�cnico legible", y lo logra bastante bien. Cuando expone c�digo lo hace con una brevedad que se agradece. Leer ejemplos que toman muchas p�ginas de c�digo en una tableta, o una Kindle es una tortura. En este caso funciona bastante bien. La elecci�n de Python para expresar c�digo breve es la clave para este logro. En este punto tengo que felicitar a Ricardo, debe ser el �nico libro t�cnico de programaci�n que he le�do por entero en mi Kindle, sin tener que recurrir a mi Mac o al iPad para poder mantener todo el c�digo a la vista. Esto les parecer� una minucia, pero si tienen la costumbre de leer muchos libros de programaci�n en formato ebook, lo comprender�n y agradecer�n.

Quiz�s ser�a interesante que Ricardo ampliara sus ejemplos en GitHub usando otros lenguajes modernos como Rust, que tiene un soporte de Canales algo diferente a Go y en Scala para explorar el modelo de actores. Supongo que eso lo abordar� en una segunda edici�n (porque espero que le vaya tan bien, que se anime a escribir una segunda edici�n).
Por �ltimo debo decir que Ricardo es un gran escritor. No s� como lo hace, pero consigue hacer de un tema muy t�cnico algo ameno y entretenido.

The Literature Review

I expected it to break every single part of the literature review down. I was a little disappointed. I am now looking for another book. It has a lot of examples of written parts out of a literature review. However, I need something that is easy to read and gives much more clear information.

A good beginner book with an overview of the aspects of literature review

I am torn on how I ultimately feel about this book because it was required for a class in a PhD program. The book itself is not one that I would have normally purchased because a lot of the information is taught or easily accessible in other resources. However, since it is required for the course we have to read it out of order which might be why I felt that it was a waste of the book.

The book is published outside of the US and refers to sites or resources that are not ones that would normally be referenced in a US based course. Obviously, this also means that some words are spelled different and may be used in a context that someone from the US may not recognize. If you have never had to "review" literature then this is a great book to have. If, however, you have already had a few classes that required reviews and have covered it extensively, then this is not the best book for you.

There are also some parts in this that are rather vague and could have been expanded on a little more. As an overview, though, they cover a lot and this book is a good beginner book.

It's so interesting, you'll think he made it up!

I've attended Dr. Baughman's lectures and this book is an excellent reflection of his ability to engage, enlighten, and breathe life into the study of history. From the French Revolution to the Cold War, Dr. Baughman writes about history as if he was there, as if he lived each moment. His book is so engaging and compelling that you won't be able to put it down. Some of the little things he writes about are so interesting and offbeat that you'll think he made them up. But it's all true, it all happened, and it's all told by a great historian, a great writer, and a great storyteller. I wish all of my professors cared enough about their students to write a book for them, one that makes the past as real as the present and as relevant as the future. This is the kind of book you want to share with your friends. This is the kind of book you want to read and then re-read. Bottom line, this is the kind of book that gives textbooks a good name.

Excellent and Detailed

This is actually one of the better history texts I have read in quite some time. Baughman provides detail without being boring or redundant and he gives the reader a strong idea of what the personalities involved in historic events were actually like. While some might disparage the lack of pictures in the text I think that it is this that makes the reader judge the book on its own merits.

My main problem with this book is that it did not translate particularly well to mobi formatting. Punctuation and misspellings are present in the text which indicates that this may have been translated from an unedited reviewers copy of the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in world history.

Great, well written history survey for classroom or leisure reading

I was so happy to find Dr. Baughman's Story of Western Civilization. As a long-ago graduate and a natural science major, I wanted to improve my knowledge of western civilization history. Dr. Baughman's book is excellent, a well-written survey with enough detail to flesh out the important events and personalities. His sketches of the important people read as entertaining biography, the narractive flows like a novel. Now on my kindle, I find different periods of history to review when I am in waiting rooms, airports, trains. His chapters let you pick any time or event you desire. Highly recommended for the casual reader or the classroom.

My son loves Slappy

We love Goosebumps books. We usually read them together as a family. I am not a huge Slappy fan, but my son certainly is. Slappy is his favorite character. This book was better than some of the other Slappy books. I like that the story is told from Slappy’s point of view. I think that made it more interesting and kept it from being too much like all the other Slappy books. I recommend if you are a Slappy fan. My son loved it.

Jimmy O' James is a well loved children's ventriloquist with his living dummy Slappy. Slappy is a real mad man (or mad dummy I should say). Slappy insults kids, hurts kids and is trying to ruin Jimmy's career. Slappy is so evil because he was made by an evil sorcerer. The sorcerer made slappy out of coffin wood. Eventually Jimmy has enough of Slappy. He sets a curse on Slappy. Slappy has one week to do three good deeds, or he will die! That might not be too hard for you but remember Slappy is evil so it is pretty hard for Slappy to do three good deeds. Eventually he starts to do good deeds but unfortunately some one is messing them up. Slappy thinks it is his owner's sister, Stella. So Slappy tries to KILL Stella... but is it really Stella... who is really messing up Slappy's good deeds... will he be put to sleep forever... READ THE BOOK!!!!!!

Imagine being Slappy fighting for your life. That's a lot of pressure. Slappy has to do three good deeds in one week. What if you don't do the good deeds? YOU'LL DIE! (Pretty creepy huh?)

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes horror, humor and suspense. This book puts you on the edge of your seat. Once you start reading this book you won't be able to put it down. If you like to laugh this is the book for you.

Even more pressing, the replication of this pattern throughout the fast-developing world makes it doubtful that we will achieve the reductions in carbon emissions needed to avoid climate catastrophe. In Rail and the City, architect Roxanne Warren makes the case for compact urban development that is supported by rail transit.

Calling the automobile a relic of the twentieth century, Warren envisions a release from the tyrannies of traffic congestion, petroleum dependence, and an oppressively paved environment. Technical features of rail are key to its high capacities, safety at high speeds, and compactness -- uniquely qualifying it to serve as ideal infrastructure within and between cities. Ultimately, mobility could be achieved through extensive networks of public transit, particularly rail, supplemented by buses, cycling, walking, car-sharing, and small, flexible vehicles. High-speed rail, fed by local transit, could eliminate the need for petroleum-intensive plane trips of less than 500 miles.

Warren considers issues of access to transit, citing examples from Europe, Japan, and North America, and pedestrian- and transit-oriented urban design. Rail transit, she argues, is the essential infrastructure for a fluidly functioning urban society.

transportation planning

This is a wonderful book that details some ideas into the idea that certain cities should find other means of transportation besides automobiles. Obviously the petrol, coal and "dirty fuels" companies don't want to go in that direction. But just imagine a city without cars, I have, others have, but the corporations can not.

Trains, people movers, trees, solar panels, etc. would be the heart of it.

This needs to be a major consideration, since over the last 200 years, capitalists and corporations have done more to ruin the planet than anything. There's still people that deny it.
